Dr. Chun-Yin Chen earned his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English from Tamkang University in Taiwan between 1983 and 1986. He then continued his studies in the United States, obtaining a Master of Arts (M.A.) in Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from 1986 to 1988. Dr. Chen further advanced his academic career by completing a Ph.D. in Linguistics at the same institution between 1988 and 1991. These formative years equipped Dr. Chen with a strong foundation in linguistics, shaping his contributions to the field.

He began as an Associate Professor in the Division of Foreign Languages and Literatures at National Chung Hsing University in 1992. Later that year, he moved to National Taiwan Normal University (NTNU), where he served as an Associate Professor in the Department of English from 1992 to 2000. Dr. Chen was promoted to Professor at NTNU, where he continued his impactful work from 2000 to 2012. In 2013, he was appointed as a Distinguished Professor in the Department of English at NTNU, a position he currently holds, further solidifying his position as a leading figure in the field of linguistics and English studies.
