Professor Jolanta Dorszewska is a distinguished neuroscientist and full professor at the Laboratory of Neurobiology, Department of Neurology, Poznan University of Medical Sciences, Poland. With over three decades of research and academic leadership, she has made pioneering contributions to the understanding of neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. As the head of her department since 2004, she continues to inspire innovation in molecular neurobiology, epigenetics, and neurochemistry.

🎓 Education

Prof. Dorszewska’s academic journey began at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Poznan University of Medical Sciences, where she earned her MSc in Pharmacy (1987) with distinction. She continued her academic growth with a PhD (1996) in medical sciences and attained postdoctoral habilitation (2004). She became a Full Professor in 2016, after rigorous training and board certifications in pharmaceutical analytics and medical genetics.

💼 Professional Experience

Her professional path is deeply rooted in neuroscience and pharmacology. She served as an assistant in the Departments of Pharmacy and Clinical Neurochemistry before becoming a Research Associate and later the Head of the Laboratory of Neurobiology. Internationally, she gained experience as a Research Scientist in New York (1999-2000). She has also taught extensively, including at the National High Medical School in Piła.

🔬 Research Interests

Prof. Dorszewska’s research covers a rich spectrum—from analyzing lipid and sterol levels in hypoxia to the genetic and molecular pathways of neurodegeneration. Her work involves advanced techniques like HPLC, ELISA, Western Blot, PCR, and focuses on biomarkers, genetic polymorphisms, miRNAs, and apoptosis in diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, epilepsy, and migraine. She is especially known for studies on homocysteine metabolism and catecholamine gene mutations.

🏆 Awards & Recognition

She has earned numerous accolades and holds editorial and leadership roles in prestigious journals including Frontiers in Molecular Neuroscience, Journal of Integrative Neuroscience, and Current Alzheimer Research. As a Guest Editor for six major neuroscience journals and a member of international neurological associations, her global contributions to science are widely respected. She was also an Honorary Member of the 12th CONy World Congress (2018).
