Prof. Dr. Zeljko Situm is a full professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture, University of Zagreb, Croatia, with extensive experience in automatic control, pneumatics and hydraulics, pneumatic and hydraulic servo systems, computer control systems, modeling and simulation of mechatronic systems, and mechatronics. He has served as Head of the Department of Robotics and Production System Automation and Chair for Automatic Control and led the Laboratory for Automation and Robotics. He obtained his PhD in 2001, MSc in 1997, and Diploma in Mechanical Engineering in 1993 from the University of Zagreb. Prof. Situm has been a member of international scientific committees, editorial boards, and professional societies, including the Fluid Power Conference, Ventil, Strojniški vestnik, the Slovenian Society for Fluid Power, and the Croatian Society for Robotics. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Faculty Medal in 2017, Recognition Award in 2016, nine Rector’s Awards for student mentorship, and over 140 national and international medals for student project guidance. He has led several major projects, including “Optimal Energy Management in Fluid Power and Electromechanical Systems,” the HiSkid Hybrid Skidder project funded by the ERDF, and numerous national research initiatives on automotive drivetrain dynamics, industrial and mobile robot control, and intelligent mechatronic systems. His work includes the development of experimental electrohydraulic setups, advanced control techniques, nonlinear control algorithms, hybrid drive modeling, PLC-based control, and patent applications for innovative hybrid skidder drives. He has also led a series of research support projects from 2013 to 2024, covering fluid power systems control, robotic systems with hydraulic and pneumatic actuation, bionic robotic systems, mechatronic systems with advanced control capabilities, and innovative mechatronic systems integrated with Internet of Things concepts. Prof. Situm has published extensively in international journals, contributing over 150 publications with significant citations, holding an h-index of 32, and advancing the fields of mechatronics, robotics, hydraulic and pneumatic actuation, and energy-efficient hybrid systems. Through his mentorship, research leadership, and technical innovations, he has substantially contributed to education, applied research, and technological development in Croatia and internationally.

He holds a master’s degree in Educação Física/Fitness from Universidade Federal do Paraná (2010) and a bachelor’s degree in Educação Física from Faculdades Reunidas de Administração, Ciências Contábeis e Econômicas de Palmas (2000). He completed multiple postdoctoral fellowships, including at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (2017–2020), and several specialized courses in Fisiologia do Exercício, Treinamento Desportivo, Metodologia do Ensino Superior, Musculação, Ginástica, and Capacitação em Metodologias Ativas. After a postdoctoral fellowship in Chemical Organic Synthesis and several years teaching Organic Reaction Mechanisms, he joined Quimigal as Process Engineer, later moving to Hoechst Portugal where he advanced to Research Director and President of Hoechst Ambiente, gaining 25 years of industrial experience. He has authored over 250 peer-reviewed publications and holds 81 patents, most of which have been implemented as industrial processes, demonstrating his commitment to innovation with direct industrial impact. Over the past two decades, his research has focused on projects developed in close collaboration with industrial partners, operating within TRL3–8, and contributing significantly to applied chemical engineering. He has also served as Scientific Coordinator of major European projects including NewAdhesives, Intelpol, Wadisun, Multifat, BioProduction, and Foul-X-Spel, advancing sustainable materials, industrial chemistry, and technology transfer. Through his leadership, Prof. Bordado has built a career that integrates academic excellence with industrial practice, shaping innovative solutions to global challenges in chemical engineering while mentoring future generations of engineers and scientists.

He holds degrees in Agricultural Biotechnology, Supramolecular Chemistry, and a Ph.D. in Structural Biology and Crystallography, and since 2016 has taught biophysics-related courses at A.U.A. and the University of West Attica. His research focuses on cyclodextrin inclusion complexes with food ingredients, natural products, and pharmaceutical compounds, employing X-ray crystallography, UV analysis, molecular docking, and molecular dynamics simulations to explore host–guest interactions with applications in food, nutraceutical, and pharmaceutical industries. He has published more than twenty peer-reviewed papers, a book chapter, and presented at over forty conferences, while also serving as a reviewer for more than two hundred manuscripts across fifty-seven scientific journals. His work has contributed new insights into complexes involving cholesterol, estradiol, cannabidiol, piperine, citral, geraniol, and flavonoids, advancing encapsulation and drug delivery technologies. Through collaborations with institutions such as NCSR Demokritos, the National Hellenic Research Foundation, and the Medical University of Warsaw, Dr. Christoforides has significantly expanded the structural and functional understanding of bioactive compounds, earning international recognition for his contributions to translational research and innovation in applied biophysics.

Dr. Souad Kies is a Research Professor at the University Dr. Tahar Moulay in Saida, Algeria, where she works in the Modeling and Calculation Methods Laboratory and has been a dedicated civil servant since 2002. She holds a degree in Hydraulic Engineering (1991) and a Master’s in Hydraulics with specialization in hydroelectric works (2002), both from the University of Science and Technology, Oran. Over the years, she has combined teaching, research, and academic leadership with equal commitment, offering courses in General Hydraulics, Statistics, Chemistry, Sanitation, and MIRE while also supervising numerous final year projects. Her research and supervision particularly focus on environmentally sustainable solutions for wastewater treatment, exploring innovative approaches such as the use of plants, biomaterials, and natural polymers. In addition to her teaching and research activities, Dr. Kies has taken on key administrative roles, serving as Head of the Master’s Program in Urban Hydraulics (2018–2024), Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Faculty of Technology (2021–2024), and currently as a Member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Department of Civil Engineering and Hydraulics. Recognized for her ability to teach, mentor, and coordinate, she actively participates in management and decision-making processes within academic boards, organizes educational activities, and promotes innovative teaching methods. With her interdisciplinary expertise and passion for environmental sustainability, Dr. Kies continues to contribute significantly to hydraulics and civil engineering, fostering both scientific advancement and the training of future engineers and researchers in Algeria.
