Jan Yperman | Analytical and Circular Chemistry | Research Excellence Award Published on 06/02/202606/02/2026 by Invention Awards Prof. Dr. Jan Yperman | Analytical and Circular Chemistry | Research Excellence Award Emeriti in University Hasselt, Belgium Prof. Dr. Jan Yperman is a distinguished Belgian chemist who earned his Bachelor (1971), Master (1973), and Doctorate (1981) in Chemistry and built a long academic career at LUC/UH, progressing from Ph.D. bursar to Ordinary Professor and later Emeritus in 2016. He served as Head of Department, Vice-Head, and Chairman of the UH Chemistry Curriculum and Examination Board, contributing significantly to academic leadership. He received the prestigious Stas Prize (1981) and a diploma from BAS-Bulgaria (2004), and has been a member of the international editorial board of FUEL since 2002. His research spans acid–base chemistry, coal and solid fuel analysis, superconductor precursor preparation, and analytical automation in chemistry laboratories. He is widely recognized for his extensive work on biomass valorisation, pyrolysis, activated carbons, adsorption technologies, and environmental remediation. Beyond academia, he also served as Alderman of the City of Hasselt from 1995 to 2001, reflecting his commitment to public service.
