Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arne Lowden is a distinguished psychologist and sleep researcher with extensive expertise in sleep/wake regulation, circadian rhythms, light behavior, work hours, health, accidents, nutrition, and mental performance. He earned his Ph.D. in Psychology from Stockholm University in 1999, following a Master of Arts from the University of Stockholm and studies in Economics at Uppsala University. Over his career, Dr. Lowden has held numerous research and academic appointments, including positions at the Institute for Psychosocial Medicine and the Stress Research Institute at Stockholm University, where he has served as Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology since 2010. He is a certified sleep specialist and has supervised multiple Master’s, Ph.D., and post-doctoral researchers, contributing significantly to training the next generation of scholars. Dr. Lowden has been actively involved in international and national scientific boards, including the Working Time Society, Swedish Society for Sleep Research & Sleep Medicine, and European Society for Sleep Research. He has served on editorial boards of Sleep Science and Scandinavian Journal of Work, Environment & Health and organized major symposia such as the International Symposium on Shiftwork and Working Time. His scholarly activity includes presenting at numerous international conferences across Europe, Latin America, and Asia, with invited talks and oral/poster presentations at forums such as the European Congress on Sleep Research, Society for Light Treatment and Biological Rhythms, and Latin American Symposium on Chronobiology. Dr. Lowden has published extensively in high-impact journals, with over 120 publications, accumulating more than 4,500 citations and an h-index of 35, reflecting his influential contributions to chronobiology, occupational health, and sleep research. His work integrates applied and theoretical perspectives, advancing understanding of human performance, health, and well-being in relation to sleep and circadian regulation.
