Prof. Thiago Caon holds a PhD in Pharmacy from the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC, 2014), with a sandwich doctorate at Monash University, Australia, under the supervision of Joseph A. Nicolazzo, and a Master’s degree in Biotechnology (UFSC, 2009), in addition to undergraduate degrees in Pharmacy (UFSC, 2006) and Business Administration (UDESC, 2011). His doctoral research focused on the development of pharmaceutic strategies to improve the biopharmaceutical characteristics and intestinal absorption of saquinavir mesylate, aiming at cost-effective formulations suitable for public health systems, while his master’s work standardized ex vivo Franz diffusion cell models for drug permeability studies across skin and mucosal tissues. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UFSC (2014–2015) in pharmaceutical quality assurance and control, supported by CAPES, and has extensive expertise in biopharmaceutics and pharmaceutical technology, particularly in molecular transport across biological membranes, alternative drug administration routes (skin, buccal, mucosal, and sublingual), and the development of nanotechnology-based delivery systems, polymeric films, and hydrogels. Prof. Caon has undertaken complementary research training at UFRGS and Monash University and participated in national initiatives such as the restructuring of the Brazilian Phytotherapy Network in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. Since 2015, he has been a faculty member in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UFSC, where he is a permanent professor in the Graduate Program in Pharmacy and has served as research coordinator since 2021. Professor Ju Seok Ryu is a distinguished clinician–scientist and internationally recognized authority in rehabilitation medicine, with seminal contributions spanning dysphagia, spinal disorders, pediatric rehabilitation, neuromuscular medicine, and rehabilitation engineering. As a tenured Professor and current Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Seoul National University College of Medicine and Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, he has played a pivotal role in advancing evidence-based rehabilitation practices that directly translate into improved patient outcomes across the lifespan. Dr. Ryu’s research is particularly renowned for transforming the assessment and treatment of dysphagia. He is widely regarded as a pioneer in the clinical application of high-resolution manometry (HRM) for swallowing disorders, producing foundational work that clarified pharyngeal pressure dynamics, upper esophageal sphincter physiology, and aspiration mechanisms. His studies integrating HRM with videofluoroscopic swallowing studies and electromyography have established new diagnostic standards and informed precision-based dysphagia management. More recently, he has led innovative research incorporating machine learning, deep learning, and voice analysis to predict aspiration risk, opening new pathways for noninvasive screening and digital health solutions. In parallel, Professor Ryu has made major contributions to neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES), particularly the development and validation of sequential 4-channel NMES systems for dysphagia rehabilitation. Through rigorously designed randomized controlled trials published in high-impact journals, his work has demonstrated superior clinical and biomechanical outcomes compared with conventional stimulation approaches, influencing rehabilitation protocols worldwide. His research portfolio also encompasses spinal pain, scoliosis, cerebral palsy, and pediatric neurorehabilitation, with notable advances in understanding abnormal muscle activation patterns, brace biomechanics, gait analysis, and hip displacement prevention in children with severe cerebral palsy. By combining surface electromyography, three-dimensional imaging, and biomechanical modeling, Dr. Ryu has provided mechanistic insights that directly inform individualized rehabilitation strategies. Dr. Dasiel Oscar Borroto Escuela is an internationally recognized neuroscientist whose research has fundamentally advanced the understanding of G protein–coupled receptor (GPCR) heteroreceptor complexes and their role in brain function and disease. His work focuses on elucidating how alterations in GPCR heteroreceptor complexes and their allosteric receptor–receptor interactions contribute to the pathogenesis of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders, including major depression, addiction, and Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Borroto Escuela is a pioneer in the discovery and characterization of GPCR–GPCR and GPCR–RTK interactions in the central nervous system, providing compelling molecular evidence that these complexes constitute critical integrative signaling units underlying learning, memory, and brain plasticity. His seminal publications in Biological Psychiatry, Molecular Psychiatry, Neuropsychopharmacology, and Trends in Pharmacological Sciences have reshaped prevailing neurotransmitter hypotheses by introducing receptor heterocomplex dynamics as key determinants of disease vulnerability and therapeutic response. A major contribution of his work is the proposal that changes in the density and allosteric interactions of GPCR heterocomplexes represent a shared molecular mechanism linking psychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders. He has notably extended the serotonin hypothesis of depression by integrating molecular dynamics within serotonin receptor heterocomplexes, identifying new targets for antidepressant intervention. Dr. Borroto Escuela has also developed and refined cutting-edge methodologies, including the establishment and optimization of in situ proximity ligation assay (PLA) techniques, enabling the in-brain visualization of GPCR heteroreceptor complexes—a methodological breakthrough that has become foundational in the field. His characterization of heteromer interface interactions, such as the D2R–A2AR heterodimer, has opened new avenues for drug development using small interfering peptides. Currently, as an EMERGIA Fellow at the University of Málaga, Dr. Borroto Escuela leads the Receptomics & Brain Disease Lab, while simultaneously directing the GPCR Laboratory at Karolinska Institutet. His doctoral research, titled “Molecular characterization of Brucella spp. and transmission dynamics of brucellosis among humans and livestock in Kenya,” applies a One Health approach to improve prevention and control strategies for brucellosis. Dr. Oketch has served as an Honorary Lecturer in the Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Nairobi since 2023 and is an active member of the Kenya National Brucellosis Technical Working Group. He previously held the role of Research Officer and Programs Coordinator at the International Emerging Infections Program, Kenya Medical Research Institute–Center for Global Health Research in Kisumu, where he contributed significantly to national and regional infectious disease initiatives. Dr. Yinchao Liu is a Ph.D. researcher in the College of Electrical Engineering at Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, with research focused on wireless power transfer (WPT in power electronics). He has made notable contributions to series–series (SS) compensated WPT systems through both control strategies and parameter design methodologies. He proposed a monotonic and continuous frequency control method that enables seamless operation across constant-current and constant-voltage charging modes, even under large coil misalignment conditions. This method guarantees frequency monotonicity, maintains inverter zero-voltage switching (ZVS), and keeps the CC-mode operating frequency close to resonance, thereby ensuring high efficiency over wide coupling coefficient ranges. A graphical feasibility analysis was introduced to clearly illustrate the continuous frequency trajectory, followed by a systematic design framework and hardware implementation. Experimental results from 3.3 kW and 2.4 kW prototypes with coupling coefficients ranging from 0.1 to 0.3 validated the robustness and effectiveness of the approach. In addition, he developed a comprehensive multi-objective parameter design methodology for SS-compensated WPT systems that simultaneously satisfies rated output voltage requirements and ZVS operation while explicitly accounting for compensating capacitance tolerances and coupling coefficient variations, providing strong theoretical support for reliable and manufacturable high-power WPT system design.
